Group of researchers from the Antenna and Propagation Research Group headed by Professor Katsuyuki Haneda at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering have won the Best Student Paper Award. Usman Virk received the Award at 11th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) on March 24, 2017 in Paris. With more than 1000 delegates every year, this conference is one of the prestigious mega-event, at both European and global level. Conference is supported by IEEE, IET, IEEE-APS, URSI, AMTA, ISAP, and EuMA.

The paper is titled “Multi-Frequency Power Angular Spectrum Comparison for an Indoor Environment” by Usman Tahir Virk, Sinh Nguyen and Professor Katsuyuki Haneda. In the competition five finalists presented their work in a special poster session. Jury members, who are the top experts in the field, evaluated the work, poster and presentation.

The paper investigated frequency dependency and angular distribution of multipath below and above 6 GHz frequencies. The study is based on extensive radio channel measurements at 2, 15, 28 and 60 GHz frequency bands, performed in Aalto University.

Antenna and Propagation Research Group is one of world’s leading research group in 5G radio channel modeling.

“I am proud to be the part of the Research Group headed by Professor Katsuyuki Haneda. It is a great honor to work under the supervision of Professor Haneda that led two best paper awards in my doctoral studies”, says Usman Virk.
