Research topics

The group focuses in the research of nanomaterials, nanostructures and advanced materials for use especially in nanoelectronics and nanophotonics. Areas of current research activities include

  • graphene and related 2D materials including CVD fabrication and devices). The group participates in the EU Graphene Flagship project, see http://graphene-flagship.eu/
  • compound semiconductor nanowires, see e.g. http://www.iet.ntnu.no/projects/nanordsun/
  • energy efficiency especially in advanced LED and solar cell concepts. The group is involved in the Aalto Energy Efficiency program, see http://energyefficiency.aalto.fi/en/research/moppi/
  • nanofabrication by atomic layer deposition (ALD), metalorganic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD), electron beam lithography, focused ion beam lithography, self-assembly etc.
  • micro-, nano- and optoelectronic devices based on semiconductors (GaN, GaAs, InP, Si...) and their nanostructures (such as quantum dots, nanowires and black silicon). Examples of devices are x-ray detectors, SERS sensors, THz emitters & detectors.
  • materials characterisation (optical spectroscopy, Raman mapping, AFM, SEM. XRD, XRR, electrical measurements)
