10.08.2017 / 09:30 - 16:00
Aalto Bioproduct center, Vuorimiehentie 1, 02150, Espoo, FI

Dear colleagues,

We are happy to invite you to photo-session organized by the Materials platform on Thursday 10.08 in Vuorimiehentie 1 (Bioproduct Center), Otaniemi Campus. This event is open for all Aalto's materials researchers and it is free of charge. Get your scientific sample professionally photographed!

The service is provided by the Materials Platform with the aim to help visualize and promote materials research.

Photographs that we will take can be used for instance for:

  • the promotion of Aalto University research activities;
  • visualization of academic papers, theses, journal and online publications*;
  • web pages, presentations, and teaching materials;
  • applications.

ALL THE SLOTS HAVE BEEN TAKEN!

See schedule here. You can use your name or Aalto University email address for booking.

WHAT WE CAN PHOTOGRAPH

  • Material samples that are big enough, e.g. size of a 2-euro coin or larger;
  • A researcher with his/her sample;
  • You can bring your starting material, end-product, waste...whatever helps you to communicate your work;
  • Your sample should be safe enough to handle in normal laboratory conditions.

PRACTICALITIES OF THE EVENT

Before the photo shoot:

  • Please, bring the equipment that you need to handle the sample with you (tweezers, glass or ceramic plates, etc.);
  • Some material samples can be tricky to photograph (matt/glance deep black or white; almost transparent). If your sample is one of those, the photo session should be longer. Contact us to see if you need to book two slots for the photo shoot;
  • Please, prepare the sample to be photographed beforehand (i.e. take care of unwanted dust and fingerprints).

During the photo shoot:

  • The time-slot for one sample is 15 minutes. In order to maintain the schedule, please be on time;
  • If you have an idea how your sample should be photographed (angle, the arrangement of pieces), share it with us at the photo session! If there is no specific need for a certain photo, we will start with taking photos from the top and proceed from there;
  • At the photo shoot session, you will be asked to fill a short form about your sample and your contact details, so we can contact you later on and send the photos.

After the photo shoot:

  • All photographs will be processed after the photo-shooting day. You'll receive the email containing a link to your best photos as soon your photographs are ready;
  • We will ask you to fill the short feedback survey. This will help us to understand how to make the service better next time and be attentive to the researchers’ needs;
  • You can use the photos freely in cases where the copyright is not given elsewhere and Aalto University will have the copyright for those photos. The main idea is to help promote Aalto University materials research and provide researchers good-quality photographs for that;
  • * You can request a copyright transfer for 1-2 photos from the sample. This could be useful for the external publishing (scientific journals, for example).

If you have more questions don’t hesitate to contact us directly.
